How to Start PostgreSQL Server on Mac OS X

  1. You need to Locate the bin/pg_ctl file If you do Not know the location make a Search with $locate or $find Commands... Example:

    locate pg_ctl
  2. Login as the postgres User with (or the User is Able to run the Server):

    su postgres
  3. Give the command to Start the server. Example:

    /Library/PostgreSQL/9.0/bin/pg_ctl -D /Library/PostgreSQL/9.0/data start
